How To Find The Perfect Engagement Ring

How To Find The Perfect Engagement Ring

Feel like it's time to pop the question? She's the one, but picking the right ring is the tricky part. Marriage proposals have expanded in all shapes and sizes (like the rings). Thanks to the digital age's viral videos, Pinterest and the age-old classic romance films. Whether you're planning to go big or intimate, one thing remains constant in this variable; the engagement ring. Walking to a jewellery store for us, guys, transport us into the escape room we might or might not get out alive. Every turn we make, it gets a tad more confusing. Every question buzzing in our head makes us sound less of an intelligent chap we are. Too many what ifs, too many questions. Don't fret, here are 4 things to look out for before you get enough shine for your dollar and a ring she can't refuse. 1. DECIDING ON YOUR BUDGET Photo credit: google images Setting a clear and realistic budget before shopping for a ring is the most important. The age-old 3-month's salary rule may separate you by being a class act, but it is old-fangled and unrealistic. Being smart by purchasing a ring that makes a complete financial sense of your current situation is key. So do your budgeting wisely, and it's perfectly fine to decline a jeweller when asked to pay a high-price, especially if it'll put you in a massive debt. 2. FINDING THE RIGHT JEWELLER Photo credit: gembygems.com How do you know if a jeweller is trustworthy? How do you know if the diamonds aren't just ripping you off? These are important questions that are bound to surface. By doing a thorough research on jewellers, looking for reviews, talking to other guys about their experiences and looking for reputable certification could go a long way to prevent you from getting ripped off. 3. HER STYLE Photo credit: personal Keeping in mind her style into the design of the ring. It is important that the ring matches her day to day routine, her go-to outfits. Have a look in her jewellery box, or pay close attention to her the next time you pass a jewellery store. In any case, there is always her girlfriends to confide to when it comes to getting insights. However, I recommend getting a ring with as little help as possible, it's much more special and meaningful that way. 4. BALANCING THE ROCK KNOWLEDGE Photo credit: google images As part of getting the right rock, having the "rock knowledge" is essential. With the knowledge of the 4 C's (Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat), you can then balance off your budget around it. Playing around with lesser carat but better clarity or a better cut with lesser clarity to suit your budget. Gem by Gems specialises in bespoke bridal jewelry carefully designed just for your fiancée-to-be. Based on my personal experience, the consultation was handled with complete transparency revolving closely around personal constraints or preference. Photo credit: google images So the basic knowledge for the ring is covered, and all that's left is that memorable proposal. From deciding the style, the carat clarity, the budget and finding the right jeweller, you pretty much get the idea. The reaction to the ring is pretty much obvious. You could instantaneously know in a split-second how your fiancée-to-be felt about the ring. After all these research that you're doing, trust me, there's no way she'll ever refuse. #Gifts #Ideas #Lifestyle #Shopping #Love #Rings #Proposal #Engagement

KOOZA By Cirque Du Soleil Is Food For Our Anxiety

KOOZA By Cirque Du Soleil Is Food For Our Anxiety

Cirque du Soleil returns to Singapore and this time with KOOZA. Debuted all the way back in 2007, at Montreal, you can expect a night with high flying, thrilling, laughter-filled acts served in a form of visual platter. Be prepared to leave all your safety protocols, concerns and restlessness for the rest of the night. With their visually stunning flamboyant costumes, beautiful composed soundtracks and not forgetting their mad acrobatic skills, you can not expect anything less than of what Cirque du Soleil is known for. I'll be amazed if you could spot anyone snoozing in this 150 minutes show. 1. NEW-AGE JESTERS Photo credit: Google Images Gone were the traditional days of jesters on jingle hats and curled pointed shoes. I was thoroughly entertained by the (only good type of) cringey, crazy jokes, and the antics. Stripping off the traditional physical attributes of the idea we have for jesters. 2. OFF THE ROOF ANXIETY Photo credit: Google Images After the Wheel of Death incident back in 2013, I would say I was rather anxious for this act. My anxiety bells when ballistic. Adding more sweat to the already sweaty palms of mine, the performer carried on skipping on top of the wheels. Despite "mocking" my comfort, oddly enough, I foresee myself watching them over and over again. 3. SONICALLY SHOCKING LIVE BAND Photo credit: Personal I was really amazed by the live band and singers. Not only were the sounds were well thought out. It was of great standards, moves in sync with the acts and transitioned beautifully, marrying visual and sonic perfectly. Photo credit: Personal With respect to the production and other fellow audience, I've disciplined myself to avoid taking pictures and videos during the show and experience the whole KOOZA the ethical way. At least that's how I show my appreciation. It was really a great experience with Cirque du Soleil. Mingling in the pre-show with a bucket (or two) of popcorn in hand, taking photos at the photobooth. Ended the night with a meet and greet with the cast and an after party. It was a great night. Great time, with great company. Photo credit: Personal Now, does anyone have any remedy for a post-Cirque Du Soleil production fix? #Circus #Theatre #Singapore #CirqueDuSoleil #Acrobat #Music

A Better Florist For The Birthday Girl

A Better Florist For The Birthday Girl

Treating your beloved ones to a heavenly arranged bouquet of flowers for a birthday, date, a cheer up gesture or simply because you felt like it, can turn the dullest day around. Arranging for a bouquet delivery is so much quicker and easier these days, and it's all done in a few clicks (or taps). My dear sister turned the big 3-0 this year and she was in for a delightful surprise. Not only was her birthday on the first day of Eid, I've also arranged for a lovely bouquet of colourful tulips accompanied with macaroons and a handwritten note. It was weeks of head cracking to get her a thoughtful gift. Constantly chanting "What to get" every time I'm on an e-commerce site. Then, one fine day, I had an epiphany; and it was A Better Florist. 1. A BETTER FLORIST Photo credit: abetterflorist.com A Better Florist is a Singapore-based startup by an ex-Google staff that delivers smiles in a form of a beautiful bouquet. The purchase and delivery process is made straight forward. All you need to do is pick a bouquet, decide on a delivery time and you can flaunt that anxious smile to yourself. 2. FLOWERS Photo credit: abetterflorist.com Providing a professionally arranged elegant lilies, tulips, sunflowers, roses (and more) bouquet range. Their flowers ships directly from flower farms in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. So, you can count on a 2-days fresh bouquet. 3. AFFORDABILITY Photo credit: abetterflorist.com The price ranges from S$68 to S$119. It is probably in the same range as the other floral e-commerce out there in Singapore at an average. I would say it's mid-low range. 4. Delivery Photo credit: Personal They offered a same-day delivery as well as a scheduled delivery. I opted for a scheduled delivery and it arrives punctually and I was greeted with a pleasant smiley delivery man. Big thumbs up for the positive attitude! Photo credit: Personal The smile on her face as she received her bouquet delivered by her dear first boy, puzzled her. At that moment I knew I had surprised her, and so the bouquet followed with her other gifts. I was really glad that the plan went as orchestrated. One of my best birthday surprise mastermind. Give A Better Florist a shot, and let me know what were your experiences like. I had a pleasant time working with A Better Florist for this occasion, I hope you will too. #Gifts #Ideas #Flower #Bouquet #ABetterFlorist #Lifestyle #Shopping

Picnic At Marina Barrage

Picnic At Marina Barrage

Weather in Singapore is inconsistent. Somedays it can be scorching and the next thing you know the dark clouds starts settling in and here comes the downpour. A picnic here is definitely a 50-50 gamble but having a "whatever happens, happens" mentality, I'll just go for it. Well of course, in any of my plan, there is definitely a contingency plan because (you can say) I'm a geek when it comes to planning. A picnic for some can be a "Let's go for a picnic and we'll potluck!", that's not a case for us. We have designated "personnel" for every logistics; drinks, snacks, main food, desserts, cutleries & disposables, games and etc. A little control freak? Well, a little bit of planning is our juice to amp us up, we live for it. 1. SETTLING IN Photo credit: EESHARK It was a little cloudy and the apparent irregular drizzle was worrying. No matter, we're optimistic and start settling for the outdoor greens, even the sheltered area was vacant. It's a little surprising that Marina Barrage wasn't jammed with people. So we checked our logistics. Hammocks, sandwiches, murtabak, wings, drinks, cutleries, snacks and desserts all checked! Well that's how we do it, a little planning can go a long way. 2. FOOD We are all passionate for food and an unforgiving unofficial food critics at heart, and having a great cook amongst us is a blessing. We had home made Spicy cheese tuna sandwich, Cheesy egg mayo sandwich and our friend's signature Nina Wings (our favourite). Adding to our list, we bought chicken and beef murtabak, fruits and other small snacks from Cold Storage. SANDWICHES Photo credit: EESHARK Because two types of sandwiches because one is just not enough! We welcomed a spicy Chili Padi Cheese Tuna and Cheesy Egg Mayo Sandwiches into our system. A surprising asian heat to our tuna sandwich, not to worry, it didn't make us reach for water. Even if it does, water cooler is easily accessible here. MURTABAK Photo credit: EESHARK We bought Chicken and Beef Murtabak from Victory down Arab Street. It's been a long while since I have my teeth sink in the murtabak skin, oh, how much I missed it. Dramatics aside, we can safely say that I could single handedly make that chicken murtabak disappear. NINA'S SIGNATURE WINGS Photo credit: EESHARK And finally we got our winner, Nina's Signature Wings. This wings is to die for, it's saucy, spicy, seasoned and if you have a checklist for a perfect wings, considered it all checked. These wings are homemade and unfortunately, only a few have tasted this magical dish because it's not made available for sale. Better luck. 3. RELAX Understanding our city lives and daily hustle, we all need a day to enjoy the simple life even if it is an hour or 2 in the sun. A picnic feels like a day where you realise that there is actually no problem to the difficulties conjured in our minds. We all need that day to relax, laugh and most importantly take deep rich breaths. HAMMOCK Photo credit: EESHARK Life cannot get simpler with Hammocks. We brought our Airmocks over and you could imagine me hoarding it occasionally through the picnic. I might get one for myself, just for that day when I feel like a dreamer or a leisure day out. I've seen it a lot in festivals and social media. It was my first time idling on it and consider me your next paying customer. CARD GAMES Photo credit: EESHARK A little fun under the sun they say. We had more than fun till the day gradually turned dark without us noticing. A little card games bringing you back to days when exams out and your teachers allow you to bring games to school. Of course I was the top 3 winners every match. #BraggingRights! We all need a little breath of fresh air apart from the busy and mentally draining aspect each of us go through. A picnic may be one of the solution. Enjoying the simple life for a change. #Food #Picnic #Leisure

Muugu Fork at Arab Street

Muugu Fork at Arab Street

Scrolling is one of my newest hobby that I've picked up since I've got 365 days older. With all the minute visuals upon scroll and the animated captions sliding in and out of the frames, it is no wonder I can spend about 3 hours just swiping up. One of the more enticing visual that I've seen is the melted raclette cheese sliding across pastas, steaks, cutlets, everything you can think of actually. Coincidentally a group of my friends wanted to try out this cosy cafe hidden in a corner of Arab Street. And, yes, the offer the Cheesy "gimmick" dish. Better yet, it is Halal. So we set on a date and here we are on our usual hunt. 1. AMBIENCE Photo credit: burpple.com Muugu Fork is a cosy and dim lit place. It was almost packed we came in. Our eyes recce the area for food portions, visually enticing dishes and diners' bites reaction. It has quite a chill out vibe, probably as chill as the service staff attentiveness. 2. FOOD After scouting for dishes on the other diner's table. We decided to start with the BBQ Chicken Wings, Chicken Cutlet Raclette Cheese, Mushroom Carbonara and the Braised Lamb Shank. Too much? Kinda, and, to make it worse, their serving is a little on the generous side. STARTERS: BBQ CHICKEN WINGS Photo credit: EESHARK The Chicken Wings was nothing extraordinary on its own, but when dipped and paired with the BBQ sauce, it does give the bland Chicken Wing a new height. MAINS: CHICKEN CUTLET RACLETTE CHEESE Photo credit: EESHARK First time trying out the sliding melting cheese "gimmick". Phones were out for that perfect Snapchat, and InstaStory (Yeah, we're kinda basic but we're not ashamed about it). I was so glad that the dish wasn't a let down. It was surprisingly not bad at all. MAINS: MUSHROOM CARBONARA PASTA Photo credit: EESHARK I am really not a big fan of creamy pasta, and this one is no exception. Others loved it but I don't particularly like it. I guess it's really a personal preference. A pass for me. MAINS: BRAISED LAMB SHANK Photo credit: EESHARK This lamb is rocking the whole course, with a smooth texture paired with a perfect herb gravy. The meat falls off the bone so easily and disappears quite instantly too. The Braised Lamb Shank is by far my favourite out of the dishes. In conclusion, Muugu Fork is a cosy joint for a good hang out or just a place to fill your stomach when you're around the area when everywhere is jammed with people. Apart from the sliding melted cheese, and lamb, that I had, there is nothing that makes me want to return to dine again. Its probably a "Yeah, why not" kind of place. #Cafe #Halal #Singapore #Food #Review #Muslim #ArabStreet #MuuguFork

Central Perk at Central Mall

Central Perk at Central Mall

Whether its that 4 claps to the theme song, a constant 'PIVOT!' or an Unagi moment, Friends (the TV series) have been a sitcom so close to heart. I have been anticipating this cafe to open ever since the announcement months ago. Now that it's here, of course, I got to experience it. Central Perk, located at Central Mall (nearest MRT Station Clarke Quay/ Chinatown), lets you dine in 3 areas, the Set of Central Perk Cafe, the Directors area and the outside of Central Perk. The cafe crew brought me on a tour of the merchandise area, the dining areas and the introduction of the personalised menu based on the characters in Friends. Obviously, I am Team Ross. 1. MERCHANDISE Photo credit: EESHARK As you walk through the guided tour of the merchandise area, you'll get reminded of iconic episodes of each characters. From Ross's Unagi portrait, to Monica's Kitchen, to Rachel's wedding dress, to Chandler and Joey's Foosball, to Phoebe's cat. Let the nostalgia begin. 2. DINING AREA Photo credit: EESHARK I was introduced to the 3 different areas of the dining area, the director seat, the central perk cafe set, and the outskirts of Central Perk. Like any fan of the sitcom I opted to be part of the 'filming' set. It was unfortunate that I didn't get the couch seat. I guess, a calefare works. Best part is you get to binge watch 'Friends' throughout your dining experience. 3. FOOD Photo credit: EESHARK So I got, Fries (How Monica Cooks It), Ahh Unagi and Key Lime Pie with Phoebe Buffay's Cappuccino. The food isn't as great in terms of taste, even though the garlic fries actually win it for me. Price wise is on the high side in comparison to your typical cafes. Photo credit: EESHARK In conclusion, Central Perk at Central Mall is a great hang out for a catch up with friends or your meetups. Although I was a little disappointed with the food I ordered, the great service from the friendly cafe crew (who checks on how I am doing and built a conversation with me), the screening of Friends episode, laughing together with the other diners. It's one of those places where you could count on to put a smile on your face, no matter. #Review #Friends #centralperk #centralmall #singapore #cafe

Royz Et Vous at Telok Ayer

Royz Et Vous at Telok Ayer

Gone were the days where the Muslim community in Singapore refers to the old 'Banquet' as a food haven. In 2016, I've seen and experienced countless of Halal cafes and eateries all around Singapore. Some were a perfect 10, others fall below average. Hipster-fied or not, these places offer experiences that many of us can only imagine experiencing back in the early 2000s. Royz et Vous, located at Telok Ayer (nearest MRT Telok Ayer, Downtown line) and Chai Chee, was our go-to last weekend. I have heard about them, offering Alcohol-free wine, and I decided to head down to try. At the back of my mind, I was prepared for a less than of the authentic tasting wine (not that I know any much about wine). 1. AMBIENCE Photo credit: Quandoo.sg I decided to head down to Royz et Vous at Telok Ayer after a day of activities around the area. Upon entering, I was quite impressed with the interior and ambience, with the playlist of a throwback 80s and early 90s playing at the back. It was an intimate setting (not too cramped), a place you would dine for a good get together with old pals, celebrate a promotion or a simple date. Plus, their staff were really helpful so you can not worry about feeling unattended. 2. FOOD Photo credit: EESHARK I was really regretful that I skipped the Beef Short Ribs. Nonetheless, I had the Buffalo Wings, Smoked Duck, the Signature Prawn & Crayfish Pasta and a Molten Lava Cake. Portion wise, it was perfect for the 2 of us, taking into consideration that I am a big eater. STARTERS: BUFFALO WINGS Photo credit: EESHARK The Buffalo Wings were hitting all the right spots with the amount of heat it has. If you are a spicy but not too spicy kinda person, these wings will definitely be a good start to your meal. Shout out to the house made sauce. MAINS: SIGNATURE PRAWN AND CRAYFISH PASTA Photo credit: EESHARK Honestly, I am not a big fan of any creamy pasta. Here's the thing, she finishes the pasta, with me only having 3 bites of it. So... It's a good thing? I would think so. MAINS: SMOKED DUCK Photo credit: EESHARK The duck, wins it for me. I love duck meat, and I get really offended when it is not being prepared proper. This, with the home-made spice sauce, was out of this world. Highly recommended. DESSERT: MOLTEN LAVA CAKE Photo credit: EESHARK There's always room for dessert. Got the oozing chocolate checked, the right amount of sweetness checked and that concludes a happy stomach. 3. WINE Photo credit: EESHARK A glass of Carl Jung Red wine to try and a bottle of Carl Jung White wine to share. It's all an experience, though I was clueless on how wines should taste like. So, I asked a friend on the difference: Dealcoholised wines does not taste like regular wines, it is less aromatic and is sweeter than usual but definitely does not taste like grape juice. In conclusion, Royz et Vous have provided quite an experience for me, a good one. I am looking forward to get my Beef Short Ribs craving fixed on my next visit. Maybe a wine ice bucket stand to keep the wines chilled too. Till the next visit! #Cafe #Halal #TelokAyer #Singapore #Food #Review #RoyzetVous #Muslim

Welcoming My New Team Player To The Team

Welcoming My New Team Player To The Team

We recently welcomed our new team mate to our operations team. With a busy day running around shooting for an activation with Fish & co., designing and, ending it off with, wings and fries at Spathe down the road by our office for after hours. Started my day right with my daily morning routines and head out to walk to the office. Rendezvous with the PR team and head out to Parkmall's Glasshouse for the activation. FISH & CO. BIRTHDAY ACTIVATION Photo credit: Personal The talents, believe it or not, commuted via trains from Dhoby Ghaut to Raffles Place. We have heard so much about our locals being a spoiled sport when it comes to interacting to mascots like this. I'm here to debunk the stereotype. The office folks at Raffles Place, were really supportive and even initiate a conversation with the mascots. BACK TO DESIGNING IN THE OFFICE Photo credit: Personal Back in the office, after being welcomed by Betty and Poppy (Obviously, too comfortable). They're too precious to ignore. I am confused whether they're my distraction or motivation sometimes. Definitely, a joy to be around with. AFTER HOURS AT SPATHE PUBLIC HOUSE Photo credit: Personal Spent my whole evening with the operations team at Spathe Public House. They served one of my favourite Red Velvet Waffle and Sweet Potato Fries. But tonight we didn't have sweet potato fries, we had truffle fries instead. Photo credit: Personal We had their Truffle Fries, Signature Marinated Spicy Chicken WIngs, Crispy Squid, Signature Australian Angus Burger and, of course, Red Velvet Belgian Waffles. Just what we needed after a day of hustling, the creamy, fluffy and smooth sweetness Waffles. Had to leave the hangout early, after a major headache. Nevertheless, it was a great end to the day at Spathe Public House. #Blog #FishampCo #Mascot #Office #Work #SpathePublicHouse #Wings #Waffles #Fries

McDonald's Riding On The Salted Egg Yolk Bandwagon

McDonald's Riding On The Salted Egg Yolk Bandwagon

What a way to welcome July with addition items on the Singapore McDonald's menu. Our Facebook feeds, Twitter, Instagram, basically on every highs and lows on anything social media this muscled sauced chicken burger have been invading our feeds. Is it really worth the hype? Just in case you are feeling clueless, McDonald's Singapore have launched a new promotional menu (from 30th June to 30th August 2016). This new menu includes a hugely raved about Salted Egg Yolk Burger, Twister Fried with Salt & Pepper Crab Flavoured Shaker, Banana Pie and Gula Melaka McFlurry with Layered Cake Bites. Mouthwatering? Well, here is my 2 cents worth. 1. SALTED EGG YOLK BURGER Photo credit: Personal The Salted Egg Yolk burger features a juicy patty, kind of like your McSpicy patty, but less the spicy, generously sauced with the Salted Egg Yolk sauce topped with curry leaves and lettuce. The burger is pretty decent despite the bad reviews that have been circulating. I agree that it is not the best Salted Egg Yolk dish out there but it's McDonald's and it's less than $10. Would I try it again? Probably not. 2. SALT & PEPPER CRAB FLAVOURED SHAKER TWISTER FRIES Photo credit: Personal The Salt & Pepper Crab flavoured shaker Twister Fries is surprisingly good. In comparison to the notoriously salty seaweed flavoured, this is nothing like it. You got to shake them well and expect a less salty twister fries and also a local flavour burst. Definitely worth the try. Would I try it again? Definitely, probably together with other meals or à la carte. Well, I am not the biggest fast food fan out there. 3. BANANA PIE Photo credit: Personal The name of this pie is pretty clear cut on what it is and it is definitely not a let down. An adaptation to Goreng Pisang (Banana Fritters), it is really good. It also reminded me of the Banana Pancake from Thailand. This pie really transported me. A definite YES to a second try. I have not try out the Gula Melaka McFlurry with Layered Cake Bits. I would probably update the post once I've tried it. My favourite should be the Banana Pie, hands down. The Salted Egg Yolk Burger, taste wise, is not so memorable. If you're short on cash, this might be the most affordable Salted Egg Yolk Burger, you probably can afford. #McDonalds #Singapore #SaltedEggYolk #Burger #TwisterFries #BananaPie #FastFood #Food

Adopting Giulio Campagnola Stippling Techniques

Adopting Giulio Campagnola Stippling Techniques

The stippling technique have been around for 5 centuries, and is becoming more and more popular in today's art form. Practised in single colour, stippling is commonly confused with pointilism which makes use of multiple colours. Invented by Giulio Campagnola, an engraver and a painter, many of my current works are influenced by the technique. There are also many talented artists who work within this medium, here are my personal favourite. 1. PABLO JURADO RUIZ Photo credit: http://img.doooor.com/ Artist Pablo Jurado Ruiz, born in Málaga, Spain in 1973, a talented artist who also practised this impressionist technique in black ink. Every of his artwork is highly detailed and tells story deeply, created to illustrate experience and surroundings metaphorically. Talk about inspiring artists, he's one of them. 2. MIGUEL ENDARA Photo credit: http://installationmag.com/ You've probably seen one of his works when scrolling through your Facebook feeds. He made an iconic artwork that involves 2.1 million dots, 138 hours and finding Benjamin. It is really a story that every art enthusiasts or anyone with a real heart should know. 3. GIULIO CAMPAGNOLA Photo credit: http://www.antiques.com/ Lastly, of course, the man himself Giulio Campagnola. He invented the stippling technique back in 1510. His prints were rare and, one of his famous works was, the translation of rich Venetian Renaissance style of oil paintings of Giorgione. There many other independent artists who have yet to be recognised, comment below of other inspiring artists that you know of. #Art #Stippling #GiulioCampagnola #MiguelEndara #pointilism #blackandwhite
